Aurangzaib Khan Takes Over As Freedom Network Managing Director

Freedom Network is pleased to announce that Aurangzaib Khan, with over 20 years of journalism background and media  development expertise, joins Freedom Network as managing director from 5 November 2014.

 

 

Profile

 

Aurangzaib Khan is a renowned media activist and development practitioner with a background in journalism over 20 years, including print and radio. As a media development specialist, including extensive advocacy, research and training experience, he has worked with journalists all over Pakistan, developing capacity in newsrooms and field reporting. He has assessed and worked with radio stations all over Pakistan including Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), Balochistan, Punjab, Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He has also helped develop campus radio stations in universities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan and developed curricula on broadcast curricula for them. As a freelance print journalist and researcher, he has extensively researched and written on media and human rights issues.

 

 

Work Affiliations

 

Since 2003, he has been working with radio and print journalists in conflict affected border regions of Pakistan. Before being affiliated with Freedom Network, he has worked in senior positions with Pakistani development communications and media development organizations Civic Action Resources and Intermedia Pakistan, and for INGOs Internews Network and International Rescue Committee (IRC). He has been associated with designing and implementing multiple media development projects funded by USAID, the US State Department, DFID, the British FCO, United Nations, Danish DANIDA, Norwegian NORAD, Swiss SDC, and others.

 

Media Development

 

Presently he works on, among other issues, researching on, advocating for and training journalists on safety and security issues through a variety of advocacy, research and capacity building initiatives. He is involved in media development issues, journalism trainings, building partnerships, managing media development and human rights projects and designing program interventions. Over the last ten years he has trained hundreds of media managers and journalists from FATA, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, journalism students, radio and TV journalists on journalism safety, media ethics, reporting conflict, election reporting, setting up election newsrooms, news production, improving the profile of gender in journalism, feature and documentary making, journalism theory and digital editing techniques.

 

 

Journalism

 

 

Aurangzaib Khan has an extensive journalism background in print and electronic media. He contributes to various current affairs publications in Pakistan and in the regions, including the Dawn and monthly Herald of Pakistan.
